Belgaum's literary and cultural heritage dates
back to more than a thousand years. The district has been the breeding ground

Thinkers' Fora, Art Circles, Ladies' Clubs, Music Centres, Bhajan Mandals,etc.,have played a major
role in keeping the tradition alive.
Since the time of the Raj, Belgaum had had a strong
military presence. The Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre, an Airforce Base and a Commando Training Centre are located
here. This has added a strong cosmopolitan flavour to
the city's culture and lifestyle, which is the cornerstone of the peace and
stability the district is proud of.
